Going the Wrong Path edition by Arthur Weissmann Literature Fiction eBooks

This book is a very well written, interesting, thought provoking look at a very basic ethical dilemma. Are there circumstances where a good person can be drawn into criminal activity in order to survive and still maintain the moral and ethical high ground? That is the problem faced by Antonio, the hero of this story. Antonio is a normal, well adjusted, good-natured teen who is abruptly faced with a cruel reality - live on the street or begin working in his brother's drug dealing business. The decisions and concessions Antonio makes to survive while attempting to maintain a normal teenage existence make for a fascinating character study. The character of Antonio, as well as the character in his world are interesting and well developed. It is obvious that the author is very fond of the characters he created. I loved this story.

Going the Wrong Path edition by Arthur Weissmann Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Going the Wrong Path is a story full of conflict, of poor choices made by people who had been given a second chance, and of how much difference the good choices of a few well meaning people can make in another person's life. Antonio is caught in the midst of wanting to do more with his life, but not really understanding that his older brothers, and legal guardians, are doing illegal and evil things. Realizing at length that he had been involved by them, and having great anguish, but not knowing how to actually extract himself from the "family" business, he finds that life gets incredibly complicated. It is a coming of age story that shows his eyes opening and how he had to make extremely difficult choices that sometimes put him on the wrong side of the law, sometimes pitted him against his brothers and threatened to leave him with no home, no means of support and likely physical punishment by his older brothers, but worst of all, it often put his life in danger. Some scenes are quite explicit, but the portrayal of the difficulty of discerning wrong from right while being raised amidst such difficult circumstances is magnificent.
A good coming of age saga set in a modern world.
This book got very intense once I got towards the middle. I just could not put it down as I was yearning to see how things would end for Antonio.
I'm only halfway through the book, but so far I can confidently say that this is a really interesting story, with an impressive plot structure and unpredictable character development!
I liked the book because it had a happy ending. I really admired Antonio because all the unfortunate events that occurred in his life and still managed to make something out of himself. Antonio is a good example for all immigrants. Of course he made his mistakes but definitely make up for it. I gave this book four stars because I still cannot believe that Antonio got away from criminal life. Usually, people who end up in Antonio’s situation they wouldn’t be a happy ending. I would give it 4.5 stars but this review would not let me.
A coming of age story--the winding path from childhood innocence to sad experience. While adolescence is almost invariably a challenge, in this tale there's an additional turn of the screw the youth striving to get accepted is an immigrant. A recommended reading for immigrant parents with offspring in a similar situation.
A story of a young man navigating through a life full of tragedies and choices. I love that he doesn't always make the right choices, but he remains a good person. The story is very detailed (and for my short attention span - at times difficult to stay focused on) however, the author has done an amazing job of painting a clear picture of Antonio's life. Without giving any spoilers, suffice it to say the story is full of heartbreaking moments and victorious situations as well. One thought that occurred to me as I read was that the author would make a great play writer. The attention to detail is incredible! Well worth the read!
